Preparation is Key

A good plan makes everything go smoothly. Make sure you’ve thought of everything you can, such as child care and pet care for the day of your move, fueling up all vehicles, and packing an essentials bag.

Prepare the Moving Locations

Ensuring that the house or facility you’re moving out of is clear of obstructions into and out of the property can help speed up your move, and reduce the chances of accidents from tripping hazards. Be sure to prepare the destination house/facility as well!

Clear Item Labeling

If packing yourself, be sure to clearly label every box and item so that the movers can tell at-a-glance what room or area your belongings are to be placed in your new home or office. This simple tip can help speed up moves, and reduce moving-day stress by a considerable amount.

Rest & Relax Beforehand

Moves of any type can be stressful. Be sure to plan appropriately and far enough in advance to allow for a little rest and relaxation the day before the move. Beginning your moving day well-rested and with a clear and positive mindset can make all the difference!

We love pets, but safety comes first! Please ensure your pets don’t run the risk of being underfoot during your move, for their safety and ours. Make sure you’ve packed an essentials bag of pet food, treats, toys, and familiar items such as a favorite blanket or preferred bedding. Make sure you’ve included any medications as well. If your pets are prone to anxiety, consider calling your vet to ask about any sedatives you could have prescribed for the day of your move.

As a family-oriented company ourselves, we love children, but just like with your pets, safety is paramount. Many of the above recommendations for handling pets on moving day apply to young children as well, including packing an essentials bag to keep your children relaxed and entertained during your move. We don’t recommend calling your vet for child sedatives, however!

Pack books in small, sturdy boxes to avoid making them too heavy. Alternate the spine and open sides of the books to balance the box and prevent damage. It might not seem likely, but the weight of books can add up quickly. The smaller heavy boxes are, the quicker one mover with a dolly can move them, instead of requiring the aid of two movers side-by-side for larger, heavy boxes.
